InDesign Examples
Calendar Project
For this project I did my best to use the Master Page tool to make it easier. However I found myself having a bit of trouble and having to continuously adjust things. For the coupons I used skills from the past lessons such as adjusting the strokes and turning straight lines into curves as well as adjusting transparency and feathering of images. I chose a color scheme to match the first picture I chose for the calendar and then continued to follow that scheme with the rest of the pictures. Since the first image featured an orange dog, I chose a picture of an orange cat and an orange rabbit for the next two months. For the coupons, I created fictitious ones for local pet supply stores that I have visited to buy products for my own pets. I think I need more practice with the master page tool. However, when I can get it to work I think it is a useful tool that saves time. As far as creating the calendar is concerned I think using the patterns of numbers to fill in the boxes was extremely useful in saving time. This project has been my favorite so far.
Hollywood Menu Project
This was my favorite assignment of all this semester. I chose my color scheme based on the logo provided for us and worked from there. For this assignment I used my photoshop skills to create the "Best Sandwich" oscar and to layer it over the sandwhich image. I also used photoshop to place the sandwich in the hand of Marilyn Monroe. Within InDesign I was able to use the paragraph styles to keep the menu text organized. Because I always find paragraph syles difficult to set up, I mostly stuck to the settings that had been provided. I think with this assignment I was able to best use my creativity and combine my photoshop and indesign knowledge. For this reason, I really enjoyed this project.
Logo Project
I chose a simple design in an effort to reflect the sophisticated and serious nature of a law firm. The triangle is meant to symbolize the three partners at the firm. I drew inspiration fro this logo from the Cindy Otten Real estate logo from the page of examples you provided for us. I liked the visual appeal of this design with its use of simple but elegant fonts for the text in the graphics for the sake of readability. The colors I chose being different shades of blue (though they wont show up after printing in the classroom) were meant to represent South Carolina Colors, thus relating to south Carolinians as a target audience. Some techniques from class and the previous assignment that I used were the subtract option, turning lettering into outlines, creating new color gradients, and type on a path and grouping as well as creating polygons and rectangles. For this assignment I had some trouble with the type on a path and create outlines functions, as when I try to resize my logo some of the text does not proportionately match the rest of the logo.
